BIOGRAPHY

Bernd Holz has been playing oboe and cor anglais with the WDR Symphony Orchestra in Cologne since 1983. After completing his studies in Saarbrücken and Essen he began his professional career at the Staatstheater in Darmstadt.

In addition to his orchestral activities Bernd Holz also lectures, He taught oboe in the Aachen department of the Cologne Academy of Music from 1989 - 1995 and has done so at the Robert Schumann Academy of Music in Düsseldorf since 2000. In 1993 and 1994 Holz was invited to lecture in Korea and Japan. In 1994 he was appointed to the jury of Japan's first competition for oboe and bassoon in Tatsuyama.

As a member of the Mainzer Bläserensemble, a group of wind players, he has performed in concerts in Germany and abroad, and in radio, record and television productions, The rare ensemble of oboe and guitar occupies a central position in his involvement in chamber music. Together with the guitarist Tatdashi Sasaki he has produced a CD with original compositions for oboe and guitar. The duo have performed this programme an several tours in Germany and abroad.

Bernd Holz is particularly interested in the employment of his classical instrument in popular music. To this end he composes and produces pieces in which the oboe provides interesting listening experiences in pop music.
